Some of the new stereo mixes are beginning to appear on YouTube Killer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ju0lPrzKLEIBasing my comments on my memory of the original (which coincidentally I heard yesterday), I can't hear any glaring differences. To me it sounds like one organ part (far right) is slightly louder than it used to be, whereas the oscillator solo (the first part of the instrumental section) sounds slightly quieter and thus loses some of its menace. The last few seconds sound slightly different, but apart from that, it's the Killer that you all know and love. Arrow: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dcYXNiFyBMThe opening has high saxophone sounds over the bass and drums, before the 'real' saxophone enters. This is distracting and I don't think it adds anything. As this is a very sparse recording, I can't imagine why it needs to be remixed. The mix between saxophones at the end sounds slightly different but I wouldn't swear to it. At the very end appear some tones - normally I would say that these come from something like a xylophone or marimba, but I don't recognise the timbre - that don't exactly add anything. This reminds me slightly of the very end of 'Lost' with the part that continually loses beats. To my ears, these mixes don't reveal anything new of value.

The 2021 mix 'Pilgrims' has more sax parts; there are some subtle additions in and around the 'away, away, away' section (e.g. 'within the growing storm' has low saxophone notes enhancing the vocal) as well as many more scattered around the song, especially in the coda. Well, David did write the music.... The vocal on the opening lines sounds more intimate; the echo on 'the time has come' is definitely new as is what sounds like a high harmony on 'has almost run'. This is one of my all-time favourite VdGG songs (almost the quintessential as it contains many aspects of their style) and this new mix will tantalise me for some time, hearing all the new sax lines.
I couldn't find a new mix of 'Still life'.
