For me one of the delights of Vital (not withstanding its weak. almost throwaway production and the fact that it's so unrepresentative of the classic band sound) is the inclusion of non-released songs and in particularly Urban. I love this track. It's like an updated Nadir-era song and I can't get enough of it. I was v. pleased when studio versions of Door and Ship of Fools finally surfaced but I waited in vain for a studio Urban. I know they played it a few times live but maybe there just isn't a studio version and it probably exists as a demo cassette version that Peter would've played to the band. But who knows how these things happen?

It's like an updated Nadir-era song Actually it kinda is, as it was probably written around the same time Nadir's Big Chance was recorded, at least the earliest known version of Urban was the one which was played live in 1975 by the band. Of course the Nadir songs are all older songs written in the 60s, just like the Fools Mate songs.
Urban is not one of my favourites, but I like it, and always enjoy it on several live tapes I regularly come back to. It seems it was the only new song of 1975 which was not recorded for an album, but unlike Roncevaux I understand why Urban never made it on one of the studio albums, but it works live. But maybe rehearsal tapes of the song exist, and the 1975 rehearsal stuff which was featured on Time Vaults belongs to the better sounding stuff concerning the audio quality. And I wished that, if the band really has no recorded concerts in their archive, at least such rehearsal stuff could be released on one of those collector's deluxe sets, which are meanwhile common for the older bands.
Hah, I just bought me Sailors Tales by King Crimson: 21 CDs, 3 Blu Rays, 2 DVDs just for the years 1970 - 1972. 3 studio albums, one then released live album (the infamous Earthbound) and 23 further concerts, all recorded within one year. All soundboard recordings, but many still in not optimal sound quality. If only one VdGG concert of 1971 existed in the worst quality of that set ...

Hmm, they should celebrate it by relesasing the complete concert on disc ... Btw where does the information came from that they played Crying Wolf as an encore? The audience recording of the evening does not feature it. And do we have any information about the show from the evening before. I think it was also recorded, but Vital was only compiled from the 16th.
