Am I the only one who is getting distinct VdGG vibes in the music of Black Country, New Road? Their first album ("For the first time") has just been released, and I enjoy it a lot. I generally don't like overhyped bands, but this one is a nice surprise.

This group's name came up in another connection so I was interested in hearing what they sound like. Where do you hear VdGG in their music? I think that they would sound more interesting if they got rid of the guitars.....

The most hammillian disc I've heard : Alan Sorrenti´s "Aria". Incredible influence

BCNR are a fantastic band of seven very young talented musiscians. I saw them exactly a year ago and was blown away. At the time only one single was available ('sunglasses'), but the heavy sax and violin riffs/passages in the livesetting indeed reminded me of the Vital era of VdG. This week my copy of the brilliant debut album arrived and whilst searching for addtional video i learned that this band was previously called Nervous Conditions. An unreleased album and some videos of Nervous conditions on youtube might suprise you, as they even more sound like VdG.

A new one on me.
Just looked up some information on them. They apparently formed in London, even though that road's near me (!) What's that about ??
That's put me off them a bit already, to be honest.
Anyway, why would I want to hear a band that sounds a bit like VdGG ?

Stefan, I listened to this album a couple of times when it was released, and yes, I also was surprised to find myself thinking of VdGG in some parts. The music, in some instrumental parts, has the same dö-dö-dö-dö-dö-dö-dö-dö-huii-huii-huii-huii-vibe (if you get what I mean? . The singer also has a somewhat posh, theatrical touch (like a desperate Jarvis Cocker not finding a spoon for his cereal and finally loosing it). Hyped, indeed - but for once it's well deserved. Both sounding like, and not sounding at all like, VdGG. Great band.
