Before you all freak out... Not because they had a falling out or because he is sick but because Guy had Brexit passport problems. Made for a very interesting show and somehow Banton still manages to make them sound like VDGG.

Lots of stuff flying around the internet about this but they are hoping that Guy will be there for the Stockholm gig. He wasn't allowed to board at Heathrow because of a rule in EU countries about the expiry date of a passport. In the UK they add 10 years onto the original expiry date when you renew so a passport can be valid for more than the nominal 10 years. It seems that in certain countries they insist on making the expiry date the issue date plus 10 years, so this brings it forward. To be honest this has been in the press quite a lot as has the requirement to have at least 6 months left on your passport. But hey ho, not everyone picks up on these things. Everyone is blaming Brexit of course. It sounds as if the new 2-piece band went down well though. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao9den9sBb0

Apparently: Afterwards Your Time Starts Now House with no Door (encore) Hah, not bad, they took my advice ...
... at least a little bit:
I wrote after the August gig:
"I actually would like it, especially in hindsight of their advanced age, if they start the new concerts with some calmer stuff, more gentle songs like Afterwards, Refugees, House with No Door, W, Forsaken Gardens, Undercover Man, My Room, Your Time Starts Now or maybe Mirror Images. The last one reminds me that I would also like it to hear a re-arranged song (or two) from the 2 VdG albums. Ahh, well ... "

I would have loved to have heard them do "Afterwards" and "House with No Door."

If it was not a compromise due to Guy being not on board, there is a good chance that they play both also next year. I hope that too, and I generally would like it to hear other songs they never did in this century.
But i like the new setlist very much. Give me a good audience recording quickly ...
Interesting is that they again played only one new song (well, comparatively new). In the "old days" the new songs ordained the set.

In the "old days," touring promoted the latest album. These days, nostalgia is the prevailing sentiment among a large segment of the audience--not that this would govern PH's selection of songs for the evening.

Wonderful ... But the question is now, is this due to the absence of Guy a PH solo show, or really the set VdGG would have played with Guy on board? VdGG did often not play the same sets every evening, which other bands often did and do, but the variations were of course limited to a few. But this here is closer to what PH did in the last years, playing completely varied sets, with songs taken from all decades, on consecutive evenings. The less musicians play, the easier is that. So it looks like a bold mixture of PH solo and regular VdGG. But I love it, and if this is only a result of Guy's passport trouble, hey, thank you for that nevertheless ...

Can't wait for the Stockholm and Gothenburg gigs. Strange though, nothing at all from the Pawn Hearts album on the second Helsinki gig!! Must be the first time ever after the "comeback" surely? However, the most important band in the world ever can play any setlist they like and get away with it.

Btw, was there ever another gig with only PH and HB?
I think PH played live with GE sometimes and with DJ more often (and also with Graham Smith), but never with HB. Unique stuff as it seems ...

I think you're right there Lighthouse. I can't recall a gig that only comprised PH and HB. At least not playing VdGG stuff oficially on their own. Still I think it is quite odd, that not a singe track was played from Pawn Hearts, one of the best albums (if not THE best album) ever made.

But they played Lemmings and Man-Erg the first evening. And it seems obvious that, while playing the same venue, that they chose to play a completely different set the other evening. Not a single overlap.
Well, by that I'm pretty sure that no one will complain, that one third of the combo was not on the stage.

Actually, the last time I saw them (in New York in 2012), they played nothing from "Pawn Hearts" (or from any of the pre-Trisector albums except for a couple from "Still Life").
